Best free attendance apps in India, 2026, and where each free tier stops

Eight free plans Indian businesses actually use, ranked by how far each one gets you before payroll, location verification or a headcount cap forces an upgrade. Every free tier here stops somewhere, and the useful question is where.

The short answer

If you want to spend nothing and everybody works at one address, take Kredily. It is the only free tier on this page with no headcount limit, and it covers an employee database, web clock-in, leave and statutory PF, ESI, PT and TDS calculation at Rs 0. We make a paid competitor and we are still telling you to take it, because for that requirement it is the right answer.

Free stops at two predictable places: paying people, and proving where they were.No free tier on this page includes GPS or geofencing, and none can run a payout, a PF or ESI challan or a Form 16. Kredily's cheapest tier that can pay somebody is Rs 14,988 a year and still has no GPS. factoHR's free plan excludes attendance altogether. Connecteam caps at 10 users and Clockify at 5, so neither reaches the 25-employee team the table below prices.

We are seventh on this page, because we have no free tier. That is the honest ranking against this page's criterion and we have not fudged it. The case for paying us is in the arithmetic instead: once you need a payout or a location, Rs 5,999 a year with GPS included is less than the cheapest Kredily tier that can pay anybody without it.

What each plan costs at 25 employees, free tiers included

The free rows are listed at Rs 0 with the reason they cannot do the job beside them, because a free plan that caps at 5 users is not a cheaper option at 25 people, it is not an option. Below them is the cheapest tier of each product that can actually run a payroll or verify a location. Rupee figures exclude 18 percent GST. Clockify and Connecteam publish no INR price at all, so their rows stay in dollars: converting at today's rate would produce a rupee figure nobody is charged and that reads like a published one.

Sources, per row: Shiftelio from our own pricing page. Kredily, factoHR and greytHR from their own India pricing pages, read in August 2026, including the plan comparison matrices and add-on rows beneath them. Connecteam from connecteam.com/pricing read in August 2026and corroborated against a screenshot of the live page, which matters because that page's billing toggle is script-driven and returned its monthly and yearly labels the wrong way round on one read. Clockify from clockify.me/pricing plus its own subscription-plans and GPS help articles. Zoho People has no row because no first-hand figure could be obtained. Ask any vendor for a quote at your own headcount rather than trusting a table, including this one.

Which free tiers include location verification

None of them. Not one free plan checked for this page includes GPS check-in or geofencing, and on two products it is not in the cheapest paid tier either. This is the most consistent finding on the page and it is worth knowing before you migrate: if the reason you are shopping is that you cannot tell whether somebody reached a site, no free tier here solves it.

How this list was ranked

By how far the free plan gets an Indian employer before the thing they came for turns out to be paid. That is a different question from our main comparison, which ranks by the cost of location-verified attendance across several sites, and the two pages reach different answers because they are asking different things.

  • What a free tier excludes is the whole story. Every entry below lists the exclusions from the vendor’s own comparison table rather than the inclusions from its marketing page. The inclusions are the easy half and they are what the headline already told you.
  • A headcount cap is an exclusion too. A free plan capped at 5 or 10 users is not a cheap option for a team of 25, so the cost table says so in the row rather than letting a Rs 0 sit there looking competitive.
  • We rank seventh and we have not moved ourselves. Shiftelio has no free tier, so against this page’s criterion it loses to six products, three of which we recommend outright in their entries. The argument for paying us is made by the cost table, where a reader can check it, rather than by the ordering.
  • Three obvious candidates were left out on purpose. Jibble publishes its prices only through JavaScript, so no figure for it could be sourced, and the third-party numbers contradict each other three ways. StaffApp claims everything is free forever including GPS and full statutory payroll, which would make it the most important entry here, but the one page that would confirm it returns a 403. Neither goes in until somebody can read the live page. Waggex was checked in the same pass and left out for the same reason: waggex.com/pricing renders its plan grid in the browser and the served page carries no figure, and the Rs 2 per employee that circulates appears only in blog posts on their own site rather than on their price list.

AttendFirst

Clockify

factoHR

Best free tier for generating letters and payslips

Zoho People

Best free tier if you already live inside Zoho

Shiftelio

Best value once free has run out, not a free product

greytHR

The one people keep listing as free that is not

The question that tells you whether free will do

Does the software need to move money, or prove a location?

If the answer is neither, free is genuinely enough and you should stop shopping. A record of who was present, a leave balance and a set of employee documents is a solved problem at Rs 0, and Kredily solves it at any headcount. Nothing on this page is worth paying for if that is the requirement.

If the answer is either, free ends. Payouts, challans and Form 16 sit behind a paid tier everywhere here, and so does GPS. That is not a coincidence: both are the parts that carry liability, and liability is what vendors charge for.

Kredily

Best free tier in India, and the only one with no headcount limit

Keeping proper employee records, at any team size, for nothing.

Kredily billing, location verification and annual cost
BillingFree forever at Rs 0 with no employee limit, marked on their own pricing page as subject to an active usage policy they do not publish. Paid tiers are Payroll OS at Rs 1,249/month and Professional at Rs 1,749/month, each covering 25 employees.

Sourcekredily.com/pricing including the plan comparison matrix and the add-on rows beneath it, read August 2026.

Choose it when

You want an employee database, self-onboarding, web clock-in, leave and statutory PF, ESI, PT and TDS calculation, you have no budget, and everybody works at one address. No other free plan here has no headcount cap, and that single fact makes it the right answer for a great many Indian businesses. If that describes you, take it and stop reading.

Look elsewhere when

You expected free to mean payroll. Read their comparison table rather than the headline. Free Forever excludes salary payouts, PF and ESI challans, Form 12BB, Form 16, overtime, daily wages, mid-month payouts, analytics and exit settlements. For a shop or a site paying daily wages, the missing overtime and daily-wage rows are the entire job. All of those start at Payroll OS, Rs 1,249 a month, Rs 14,988 a year for 25 people, which is more than most paid attendance products cost and still has no GPS. One more thing to check before you build a plan on a Rs 0 line: the free offer carries an asterisk on their own page reading subject to active usage policy, and that policy is not published anywhere we could find, so what keeps you inside it is at their discretion.

2 of 8

Connecteam

Best free tier for a team of ten or fewer

A genuinely broad free plan for very small deskless teams.

Connecteam billing, location verification and annual cost
BillingSmall Business Plan at $0 a month for life, up to 10 users. Paid tiers are sold per hub: the Operations Hub is $29, $49 or $99 a month billed yearly, and each of those prices includes the first 30 users rather than charging per head.
LocationTier-gated rather than an add-on, and the gate matters. Basic gives GPS location stamps and a map but no geofencing at all. Geofencing starts at Advanced and is capped at 10 sites. Expert removes the cap.
25 staff, per year$588 a year on Advanced, the cheapest tier with geofencing. 25 users sit inside the 30 the plan already includes, so there is no per-head charge
Sourceconnecteam.com/pricing read August 2026, with the plan prices corroborated against a screenshot of the live page.

Choose it when

You have ten people or fewer. The free plan is unusually generous by the standards of this list and the vendor describes it as all features for up to 10 users. If you are a small crew who mainly need scheduling, checklists and a chat channel that is not WhatsApp, it is hard to beat at nothing.

Look elsewhere when

You have eleven people. The free plan is capped at 10 users, hard, so it is unusable at the 25-employee size the table above prices, and the step up is to a paid hub. Two other things to know before you commit. Geofencing, as opposed to a GPS stamp on a punch, is not in the cheapest paid tier: it starts at Advanced and stops at 10 sites. And there is no Indian statutory payroll of any kind. Their payroll integration page lists ADP products only, with no mention of India, EPF, ESI, professional tax or Form 16, so a bookkeeper still has to do that part somewhere else. The free plan carries an asterisk pointing at a feature comparison we could not extract, so treat all features as the vendor’s wording rather than ours.

3 of 8

AttendFirst

The only free tier here that includes GPS, if three people is enough

Proving where somebody was, at no cost, on a very small team.

AttendFirst billing, location verification and annual cost
BillingFree forever at Rs 0 up to 3 employees. Above that, a flat Rs 3,000 a year for 4 to 10 employees, and Rs 499 per user per year from 11 upward, both marked on their own page as a launch offer with a struck-through Rs 599 beside the Rs 499. Treat the launch figures as today’s price rather than a permanent one.
LocationNot gated at all, which is the reason this entry exists. Their own comparison marks GPS, QR and selfie check-in as included in every plan, the free one included, and describes geofencing as yes, through QR and GPS. Nothing else on this page gives location verification away at Rs 0.
25 staff, per yearRs 12,475 a year at the launch rate of Rs 499 a head, or Rs 14,975 at the Rs 599 struck through beside it. The free plan stops dead at 3 people
Sourceattendfirst.com/pricing, read August 2026, including the plan comparison rows and the explicit exclusions printed beneath them.

Choose it when

You have three people or fewer and what you actually need is proof of location. Every other free tier on this page either caps you higher and withholds GPS, or withholds it at every headcount, so on this page’s own criterion nothing else gives you the thing you came for at Rs 0. It is also refreshingly plain about what it is not, which is rarer in this market than it should be.

Look elsewhere when

You need to pay anybody. AttendFirst prints the exclusion on its own pricing page in so many words: no salary calculation, no payslip generation, no bank file export, no PF, ESI, TDS, PT or LWF filing, and no Form 16 or Form 24Q. It is attendance data and nothing beyond it, deliberately. So it is a clean answer if a payroll already exists elsewhere and a dead end if you hoped this was the one product. The free cap of 3 is also the tightest here by some way, and the per-head rate above 10 is a launch offer with the standard rate visible next to it, so budget on Rs 599 rather than Rs 499 if you are planning past this year.

4 of 8

Clockify

Best free time tracker, if five people is enough

Tracking hours and billable time, not running an Indian payroll.

Clockify billing, location verification and annual cost
BillingFree at $0 for a maximum of 5 users. Paid tiers per seat per month on annual billing: Basic $3.99, Standard $5.49, Pro $7.99, Enterprise $11.99. No minimum seat count on the paid tiers.
LocationNot in the free plan and not in the two cheapest paid ones. Clockify’s own help pages state GPS is a paid feature requiring Pro or Enterprise, so location takes you from $0 straight to $7.99 a seat. Their GPS documentation describes location history and current position on a map and does not mention geofencing.
25 staff, per year$2,397 a year on Pro, the cheapest tier with GPS. The free plan cannot reach 25 people at all
Sourceclockify.me/pricing plus their own subscription-plans and gps-tracking help articles, read August 2026.

Choose it when

You are five people or fewer and the question you need answered is how many hours went to which client or project. As a free timesheet it is well built and widely used, and the free tier is not crippled for that job.

Look elsewhere when

You are an Indian employer rather than a consultancy billing hours. The free tier caps at 5 users, and it excludes GPS, time off, approvals, scheduling, expenses, invoicing, screenshots, kiosk and custom fields. More fundamentally, Clockify does no Indian statutory payroll at all: nothing on its pricing or plan pages mentions EPF, ESI, professional tax or Form 16, because it is a time tracker rather than a payroll engine. It also publishes no INR price, so an Indian buyer is paying in dollars on a card.

5 of 8

factoHR

Best free tier for generating letters and payslips

Employee records and documents at zero cost, for up to 20 people.

factoHR billing, location verification and annual cost
BillingFree forever at Rs 0 for up to 20 employees. Paid tiers are Core Rs 4,999, Premium Rs 5,999 and Ultimate Rs 6,999 a month, each covering up to 50 employees, with additional employees at Rs 69, Rs 89 and Rs 119 a month. INR plans are billed quarterly.
LocationNot free, and not in the cheapest paid tier either. Geo-Fence is absent from Core and first appears in Premium at Rs 5,999 a month. Selfie Punch and Face Recognition are separate add-ons priced in US dollars at $0.5 and $1 per employee per month on an otherwise rupee price list.
25 staff, per yearRs 0 for documents only. Rs 71,988 a year for Premium, the cheapest tier with geofencing
Sourcefactohr.com/pricing, read in full August 2026. No bot wall.

Choose it when

You have twenty people or fewer and what you actually need is somewhere to keep employee data and generate offer letters and payslips without paying for it. For that narrow job the free tier is real and it is useful.

Look elsewhere when

You want free attendance, because there is none. The free tier covers Employee Data, Letter Generation and Payslip Generation and excludes attendance, payroll processing, the mobile app and employee self-service, and geofence. It is a document generator rather than an attendance product, which makes its appearance on best free attendance lists elsewhere misleading. And note the shape of the paid ladder: the base fee buys 50 employees whether you have 5 or 50, so a 25-person business pays the full fifty-employee price, and the tier that adds geofencing is Rs 71,988 a year.

6 of 8

Zoho People

Best free tier if you already live inside Zoho

HR records for a very small team already using Zoho for something else.

Zoho People billing, location verification and annual cost
BillingA free plan exists. We are not going to state its user limit, because Zoho’s own pages give three different answers. Paid plans carry a minimum of five users and annual billing is advertised as saving more than 20 percent over monthly.
LocationLocation tracking and geo-restrictions are gated to a paid tier, but Zoho’s main pricing page and its own comparison page disagree about which one. One says Premium, the other says Professional.
25 staff, per yearCannot be stated. No first-hand INR figure is obtainable and the tier that gates geofencing is contradicted between two of the vendor’s own pages
Sourcezoho.com/people pricing and comparison pages, read August 2026. The India-specific pricing path returns 404 and the global page renders its prices client-side, so a fetch returns plan names and feature grids with no numbers at all.

Choose it when

Your business already runs on Zoho for mail, CRM or books, and you want employee records, leave and document management at no extra cost for a handful of people. The integration is the reason to pick it and it is a good reason.

Look elsewhere when

You want a number you can plan against. We could not obtain one first hand, and we are not going to repeat the figures circulating in comparison round-ups: the highest-ranked of those is published by HROne, a direct competitor of both Zoho and us, which is exactly the kind of source this site does not cite. Zoho People also does not include Indian statutory payroll; Zoho Payroll is a separate product with separate pricing. If you are seriously considering it, get a quote and read the tier gates yourself.

Shiftelio

Best value once free has run out, not a free product

GPS-verified attendance and payroll for 5 to 100 people across sites.

Shiftelio billing, location verification and annual cost
BillingFlat annual price. Rs 999, Rs 5,999 or Rs 14,999 a year by headcount band, no per-seat charge inside a plan and no seat floor. The Basic plan starts with three months free, which is a trial, not a free tier, and we are not going to call it one.
LocationGPS check-in with selfie verification, included in every plan including the Rs 999 one. There is no version of this product where location costs extra.
25 staff, per yearRs 5,999
SourceOur own pricing page. Exact, and we can be held to it.

Choose it when

Free has stopped being free for you. That happens at a specific and predictable moment: when you need the software to pay somebody, or to prove where they were. Every free tier on this page excludes one or both. Once you are comparing paid tiers rather than free ones, the arithmetic changes completely, because Rs 5,999 a year with GPS included is less than the cheapest Kredily tier that can run a payroll without GPS, and a fraction of the Rs 71,988 factoHR wants for the tier that adds geofencing.

Look elsewhere when

You genuinely want to spend nothing, and that is a legitimate thing to want. We have no free tier and we are ranked seventh on this page for that reason. If everybody works at one address and you need a record rather than a payout, Kredily is free at any headcount and is the better answer; take it. If you have ten people or fewer and want scheduling and messaging more than payroll, Connecteam is free and is the better answer. We are also the wrong product if you need a full HRMS with performance cycles and applicant tracking, which we do not build.

Disclosure: this is our product and this page is on our website, which is exactly why the criterion is written out above, why every rival figure is dated and sourced, and why the paragraph above this one exists. Our prices are on the pricing page and there is nothing behind a "contact us". How we rank is set out on the methodology page. Two free competitors rank above us on this page and their entries tell you to take them instead.

greytHR

The one people keep listing as free that is not

Deep Indian statutory payroll, sold entirely on paid plans.

greytHR billing, location verification and annual cost
BillingEssential at Rs 2,495 a month and Growth at Rs 4,495 a month, each bundling 50 employees, then Rs 45 and Rs 85 per employee above 50. Premium is quoted.
LocationGPS live tracking is a Rs 140 per user per month add-on on Growth and Premium only. Growth includes geofencing in its attendance module; live tracking is the separate purchase.
25 staff, per yearRs 53,940 on Growth, or Rs 95,940 with the GPS add-on. There is no free option
Sourcegreythr.com/pricing, read August 2026.

Choose it when

Never, if free is your requirement, which is why it sits last here. It earns its place on this page only because so many round-ups still list it as free. On its own merits it is a serious product: if the hard part of your month is statutory payroll rather than attendance, it has more depth there than most of this list, and our main comparison ranks it accordingly.

Look elsewhere when

You are here at all. greytHR publishes no free plan, only a seven-day trial. Our own main comparison page previously stated it was free for up to 25 employees; that was wrong, and we corrected it. If you find a comparison still saying so, check greythr.com/pricing directly rather than the blog.

Questions people ask before choosing

Is there a genuinely free attendance app for Indian businesses?

Yes. Kredily publishes a free forever plan at Rs 0 with no employee limit, which is the only free tier here without a headcount cap. Against their own comparison table it covers an employee database, self-onboarding, web clock-in, one leave and attendance rule, statutory PF, ESI, PT and TDS calculation, and 250 MB of storage. What it does not cover is the part people assume: salary payouts, PF and ESI challans, Form 12BB, Form 16, overtime, daily wages, mid-month payouts, analytics, exit settlements, and selfie or GPS attendance. In practice it is a free way to keep records rather than a free way to run a payroll. Connecteam is free for up to 10 users and Clockify for up to 5. factoHR is free for up to 20 employees but excludes attendance entirely, so it does not really belong on a list like this one.

What do free attendance apps not include?

Three things, almost universally. First, paying people: payouts, statutory challans and Form 16 sit behind a paid tier on every free plan checked here. Second, location verification: no free tier on this page includes GPS or geofencing, and on several products it is not even in the cheapest paid tier. Third, headcount: every free plan except Kredily is capped, at 5 users on Clockify, 10 on Connecteam and 20 employees on factoHR. Work out which of those three you need before migrating anything, because the migration is the expensive part, not the subscription.

Is greytHR free for up to 25 employees?

No. greytHR publishes no free plan at all, only a seven-day trial, with Essential at Rs 2,495 a month and Growth at Rs 4,495 a month. This claim circulates widely and we repeated it ourselves on another page before checking, which is why it is called out here. If a comparison tells you greytHR has a free tier, check greythr.com/pricing directly rather than the blog.

What is the cheapest paid attendance app in India with GPS included?

Shiftelio, at Rs 5,999 a year for up to 25 employees, which is Rs 240 per employee per year with GPS check-in and selfie capture in the base price. We make Shiftelio, so here is the comparison rather than the claim: the cheapest Kredily tier that can run a payroll is Rs 14,988 and has no GPS, the tier that adds GPS is Rs 20,988, factoHR wants Rs 71,988 for the tier that adds geofencing, and greytHR is Rs 95,940 with its GPS add-on. Connecteam is $588 and Clockify $2,397, neither published in rupees and neither doing any Indian statutory payroll.

Why is a paid product on a list of free attendance apps?

Because the honest answer to what is the best free attendance app usually involves knowing where free stops. Every free tier here excludes either paying people or proving where they were, and most exclude both. The page ranks the free tiers on their own merits, which is why Kredily is first and we are seventh, and then states what the cheapest paid answer costs once you have crossed that line. If free covers your requirement, take the free one; the entries above say plainly which and why.

Do free attendance apps handle EPF, ESI and professional tax?

Some calculate, almost none file or pay. Kredily calculates PF, ESI, PT and TDS on its free tier but puts the challans and Form 16 behind Payroll OS at Rs 1,249 a month. factoHR does no attendance on its free tier at all. Clockify and Connecteam do no Indian statutory payroll on any tier, free or paid: neither mentions EPF, ESI, professional tax or Form 16 anywhere on its pricing pages, because they are time-tracking and deskless-operations products rather than Indian payroll engines. Check for the challan and the form, not the calculation, because the calculation is the easy half.

How was this list ordered?

By how far the free plan gets an Indian employer before the thing they came for turns out to be paid. Kredily is first because it is the only free tier here with no headcount limit. Connecteam is second because its free plan is genuinely broad but hard-capped at 10 users. AttendFirst is third because it is the only free tier here that includes GPS at all, and the only reason it is not higher is that it stops at 3 employees and does no payroll whatever. Clockify is fourth, capped at 5 users with GPS behind a paid tier. factoHR is fifth because its free tier excludes attendance entirely. Zoho People is sixth because we could not obtain a first-hand figure for it. Shiftelio is seventh because we have no free tier, and greytHR is last because it has none either and is still widely listed as though it does.

The criteria this list is ordered by, what counts as a source, and how often the figures are re-checked are set out on our methodology page. Free-tier limits, plan structures and add-on prices were checked in August 2026against each vendor's own published pricing page, except Zoho People, which publishes no readable India price and is marked as such in its entry. Jibble and StaffApp were considered and left out because their figures could not be sourced, for the reasons given above. Dollar figures are the vendors' own published prices and are not converted to rupees on purpose. Free tiers change more often than paid ones and usually without an announcement, so treat every figure here as the starting point for a check rather than a commitment. All product names and trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used for identification only; no affiliation or endorsement is implied. Shiftelio is our own product, is marked as such, and is not free. If you believe anything here is inaccurate, including a free tier we have understated, write to support@shiftelio.com and we will correct it and say that we did.
