Connecteam vs Shiftelio · verified August 2026
Connecteam alternative for India: everything except the payroll
Connecteam is the best deskless-team app we have compared against, and it has no Indian payroll at any price. If that is why you are here, this is the comparison, including the four things Connecteam does that we simply do not.
Price comparison for a team of 25
Connecteam figures are from connecteam.com/pricing, read in August 2026, and corroborated against a screenshot of the live page because the billing toggle is script-driven and returned its labels inverted on one automated read. Shiftelio figures are from our own pricing page. Both sides exclude tax.
| Plan | Works out to | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| Shiftelio Growth, up to 25 staff, 3 locations, geofencing included | Rs 599 if paid monthly | Rs 5,999 |
| Connecteam Small Business, free for life, capped at 10 users | $0 | $0 |
| Connecteam Operations Basic, GPS stamp and map, no geofencing | $29 a month, billed yearly | $348 |
| Connecteam Operations Advanced, geofencing capped at 10 sites | $49 a month, billed yearly | $588 |
| Connecteam Operations Expert, geofencing with no site cap | $99 a month, billed yearly | $1,188 |
| Shiftelio Business, up to 100 staff, unlimited locations | Rs 1,499 if paid monthly | Rs 14,999 |
These are two currencies and we have deliberately not converted between them. Connecteam publishes no Indian price, and a rupee figure calculated at today’s rate would be a number nobody is actually charged. Work out your own conversion on the day you buy, and remember that what your card is charged also moves with the exchange rate every renewal.
Feature comparison
Connecteam rows were checked against connecteam.com and its payroll integration page in August 2026. Where a row says nothing published, that means their own pages do not describe it, not that the product certainly lacks it. Our own crosses were checked against our source code in the same month, not against our marketing: there is no shift swap, no open-shift board, no chat and no training module anywhere in it.
Geofencing in the cheapest paid plan
Basic gives a GPS stamp on the punch and a map. Geofencing starts one tier up, at Advanced, and is capped at 10 sites there.
EPF and ESI calculated from attendance
No Indian statutory payroll at any tier. Their payroll integration page lists ADP products and does not mention India, EPF, ESI, professional tax or Form 16.
Professional tax and TDS calculated
Same: nothing India-specific is published at any tier.
Priced and invoiced in rupees
USD only. No Indian list price is published, so the rupee cost moves with the exchange rate at every renewal.
Attendance for workers with no smartphone
Nothing published about recording a worker who owns no phone. Kiosk-style shared devices exist in the category but are not documented on the pages we read.
Indian language interface
Connecteam is multilingual but publishes no Indian-language list we could read. Shiftelio ships Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Punjabi alongside English.
Free plan for a very small team
Connecteam wins this outright: $0 for life up to 10 users. We have no free tier at all, only a Rs 999 entry plan.
Staff-to-staff shift swaps
Connecteam has it and we do not. In Shiftelio a manager builds the roster and a manager changes it.
Open-shift board staff can claim from
Connecteam has it and we do not. This is the feature we would most want back on a high-churn team.
In-app team chat
Connecteam has a proper chat channel. We do not: our notifications go out by push, WhatsApp and Telegram and are one-directional.
Training courses and quizzes in the app
A whole hub of Connecteam’s product. Not something we do at all.
Split shifts rostered as two halves
Both handle this properly, which matters more than most buyers realise: a lunch and dinner service recorded as one long shift pays overtime nobody worked.
How the two bills are shaped
A single total is only true at one headcount. The shape of the charge is what decides the bill as your team changes size, and it is the part that does not go stale.
| Connecteam | Shiftelio | |
|---|---|---|
| How you are charged | A flat monthly fee per hub, each including the first 30 users, then per additional user | A flat annual band for the whole business. No per-user charge inside a band |
| Currency you are billed in | US dollars. No Indian price list | Rupees, on an Indian invoice |
| Cost of geofencing | A tier upgrade: Basic to Advanced, $348 to $588 a year, and capped at 10 sites there | Included in every plan, including the Rs 999 one |
| Cost of Indian statutory payroll | Not available at any price | Included. EPF, ESI, professional tax and TDS calculated from the attendance |
| What 25 users costs | $588 a year on the cheapest tier that geofences, with no per-head charge because 25 is inside the 30 included | Rs 5,999 a year, Rs 240 a head |
| What happens at 31 users | Per-user charges begin above the included 30, at $2.50 each per month on Advanced | Nothing until 26, then the Rs 14,999 band covers up to 100 |
Connecteam’s bundled-thirty shape is genuinely good value at 25 users and we are not going to pretend otherwise: there is no per-head charge at all at that size. The comparison that matters is not $588 against Rs 5,999, which is two currencies and an unfair sentence. It is that $588 buys you a scheduler with no idea what EPF is, and Rs 5,999 buys you one that does the statutory arithmetic but cannot let two waiters swap a Friday between themselves.
What Connecteam is actually for
Connecteam is a deskless workforce platform: scheduling, time tracking, checklists, forms, team chat, training courses and an employee directory, sold as three separate hubs. It is unusually well built for shift work specifically, its free plan genuinely covers a team of ten, and every paid tier includes the first thirty users in the flat price rather than charging per head, which is a fairer shape than most of this market uses. Nothing on this page disputes any of that. What it does not have, at any tier and by its own documentation, is Indian statutory payroll: its payroll integration page lists ADP products and mentions neither India nor EPF, ESI, professional tax or Form 16.
Stay with Connecteam when
If any of these describe you, this page has done its job and you should stop reading. We would rather lose the signup than the trust.
- You want staff to swap shifts with each other, or to claim open shifts from a board, without the manager arranging it. We have neither. On a high-churn floor team these are the most useful features a scheduler can have and Connecteam does them properly.
- You want the team chat, the training courses and the checklists in the same app as the timesheet. That is a genuine product category and we are not in it.
- You have ten people or fewer. The free Small Business plan is $0 for life and covers all features for up to 10 users, which is more generous than anything else in this comparison, ours included, since we have no free tier at all.
- Your payroll is run outside India, or your accountant handles all Indian statutory work from a salary statement and you do not need the software to know what EPF is.
Switch to Shiftelio when
- You need EPF, ESI, professional tax and TDS calculated from the attendance you just recorded, in the same product, in rupees.
- You want a price in rupees on an Indian invoice, rather than a dollar charge whose rupee cost changes with the exchange rate every month.
- You want geofencing in the cheapest plan you can buy. Connecteam gives a GPS stamp on Basic and starts geofencing at Advanced; every Shiftelio plan geofences, including the Rs 999 one.
- You have workers who own no smartphone. A supervisor can mark a whole crew from one phone, with each record stamped with who marked it and scoped to that supervisor’s own sites.
- You want the app in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada or Punjabi, because the people using it do not work in English.
The differences that change a decision
It is not an Indian product, and it does not claim to be
This is the whole argument of the page and it is worth stating without spin. Connecteam is built for deskless teams generally, and its compliance and payroll surface is built around the markets it sells into. Their payroll integration page lists ADP products; India, EPF, ESI, professional tax and Form 16 appear nowhere on it. If your accountant works from a salary statement and handles the statutory side themselves, that gap may cost you nothing. If you expected the software to know that ESI applies below a wage threshold, it does not.
Geofencing is a tier upgrade, and then a capped one
The distinction that catches people out is between a GPS stamp and a geofence. Basic records where a punch happened and shows it on a map; it does not stop a punch made from somewhere else. Actual geofencing starts at Advanced and covers up to 10 sites, and only Expert removes the cap. Every Shiftelio plan geofences, and the number of sites is the thing our bands are drawn around: 3 at Rs 5,999, unlimited at Rs 14,999.
Four things they do that we do not
Shift swaps between staff, an open-shift board, in-app chat and a training module. We have none of the four, and we checked our own code rather than our own marketing before writing that. On a restaurant floor or a retail rota, swaps and open shifts are the features that take the Sunday-night scramble off one manager, and if that is your actual problem then Connecteam is the better buy and we would tell you so before you spent the money.
A dollar price is not a fixed price
A subscription billed in dollars costs a different number of rupees every renewal, and the direction of that drift is not usually in your favour. It is a small thing next to the payroll gap, but it is the kind of small thing that is invisible when you sign and irritating in year three. Our price is the same rupee number on the invoice each year.
Questions people ask
Does Connecteam work in India?
The product works anywhere: scheduling, time tracking, geofencing and checklists are not country-specific and Indian businesses use it. What is not there is the Indian statutory layer. Their payroll integration page lists ADP products and mentions neither India nor EPF, ESI, professional tax nor Form 16, so nothing in the product calculates an Indian deduction or produces an Indian payroll output. Prices are in dollars with no Indian list price. So the honest answer is that it works, and it will not do your payroll.
Is Connecteam really free?
Yes, up to 10 users, for life, and it is the most generous free plan in this comparison by some distance. We have no free tier at all, so on that specific question they beat us outright. The limit is a hard 10 users: at 11 you are on a paid hub, and the tier you probably want is Advanced at $49 a month because Basic has no geofencing. Their free plan carries an asterisk pointing at a feature comparison we could not extract, so treat all features as their wording rather than ours.
What does Connecteam cost for 25 employees?
$588 a year on Operations Advanced, which is the cheapest tier that actually geofences. There is no per-head charge at that size, because every paid plan includes the first 30 users in the flat price, which is a fairer shape than most of this market uses. Basic is $348 but gives you a GPS stamp rather than a geofence. Expert is $1,188 and removes the 10-site cap. Shiftelio is Rs 5,999 for the same 25 people across 3 sites. We have deliberately not converted between the two currencies.
Can staff swap shifts in Shiftelio?
No. There is no shift swap, no open-shift board and no claim-a-shift flow: a manager builds the roster and a manager changes it. Connecteam has all three. If your team reshuffles its own week, that is a real reason to buy Connecteam instead, and it is the main thing you would give up by choosing us. What you would gain is the statutory arithmetic, a rupee price and geofencing in every plan.
Can I use both?
Some businesses do, and it is not a silly answer, but be clear about what you are paying for twice. Running Connecteam for scheduling and communication and something else for Indian payroll means two subscriptions, two sets of employee records and a monthly reconciliation between them. That is defensible if the swap board and the training courses are genuinely load-bearing for you. It is not defensible just because switching is a nuisance.
Which is better for a restaurant?
It depends on which problem is louder. Both roster split shifts properly, which is the thing most attendance apps get wrong and the thing that quietly overpays your staff. If your pain is turnover and rota chaos, Connecteam wins on swaps and open shifts. If your pain is that nobody is calculating ESI on your kitchen staff and you want an outlet-by-outlet geofence in the cheapest plan, we win. Our full ranking of this category is on our restaurants comparison, where Connecteam is second.
See the price before you see a salesperson
Every Shiftelio plan and limit is on the pricing page. There is no quote to request, no implementation fee, no minimum billed headcount and no paid add-on for location verification.
This is a comparison written by Shiftelio, which is one of the two products described. Everything stated about Connecteam is drawn from their own published pages and positioning, together with a screenshot of the live Connecteam pricing page used to settle which figure is the annual one, because the billing toggle on that page is script-driven and returned its labels inverted on one automated read, and was checked in August 2026. Where their pricing is quote-based or reported inconsistently across sources we describe the charging model rather than assert a figure, and you should ask them directly. Plans and prices change on both sides. Connecteam names and marks belong to their owners and are used here for identification only; no affiliation or endorsement is implied.
